The Sun

Radiation Project

By Will, Daniel and Charlie

Convection is the circular motion of heat rising and cold air or fluid sinking.

Conduction is the transfer of heat through 2 objects by physical contact.

Radiation is heat spreading by radiational waves which is not physical like conduction. Radiation can come from fire, the sun or other objects that create heat. Here its shown coming from fire.

Convection, Conduction and Radiation

For the sun to do that it has to be pretty big so big in fact that it converts 4.27 million tons of mass to energy per second. The way it does that is by releasing thermal energy from nuclear fusion in its core.

The sun does a lot for earth.  It is the reason we are here. The sun sustains life on earth by heating up earth's atmosphere which creates climate and weather for food to grow and life to survive. Another way that it sustains life is heating up the ocean which creates currents around the globe.

How water boils

Temperature

Thermal Equilibrium

Heat causes the water to boil so if you touch it it will burn you.  The water is hotter when it boils because the pan is conducting to the water. The molecules in the water that’s in the pot the molecules spread and there is more space as it gets hotter. the same thing happens in the pot and burner.

Temperature depends on the average kinetic energy of the atoms and molecules in a substance. It is measured in Celsius and Fahrenheit.    The three units to measure temperature is Fahrenheit, Celsius and Calvit. If is getting below 32 it will snow but if it is above 32 it will not snow.

Thermal equilibrium is when you have something that is hotter and then you put something that is colder in that. What happens is the colder thing becomes the same temperature has the hotter  thing. For example when you put a jar that has colder water into a jar with hotter water.
